Donkey Do – part 3
June 4, 2010 by John Fiddes
The design that was agreed with the sponsor was for the donkey to be painted pink and there would be ‘Sooty’ faces and ‘smiley suns’ dotted over the body. The pink colour went on well and I used cut-out templates for the faces to keep the design consistent and to speed things up. I decided to give one of the Sooty faces a ‘Pudsey Bear’ eye-patch to remind people that the Donkey Parade is a charity fund raiser. I also added a stylised gold star to the donkeys face to add a bit of character. The donkey’s eyes are a bit reminiscent of the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, so if no one comes up with a better name – Cleopatra it is.
Hopefully ‘Cleopatra’ will entertain the ‘kids’ and amuse the ‘adults’. The Donkey Parade will run throughout the summer in Weston-super-Mare and will culminate when the donkeys are herded onto the new Grand Pier for a charity auction.
