Donkey Do – part 2
May 20, 2010 by John Fiddes
Following on from Henry’s report on the imminent Donkey Parade in Weston-super-Mare, I volunteered to decorate one of the donkeys. I was put in touch with one of the sponsors to discuss and agree a design and the donkey was duly delivered to my studio.
After removing the acres of bubble wrap I realised just how big this thing is – it’s virtually life-size! With only a couple of weeks to complete the project I would have to keep the design simple, there was no time for an elaborate masterpiece. Although I have worked on large canvases and painted small models before I have never tried painting on the curvaceous surface of a huge animal before. So - quite a daunting task, but no going back now.
