Observation – A Day in the Life ..
October 30, 2009 by John Fiddes

The inspiration for this montage came because of a rare occasion when I bought a popular Sunday paper for the free supplement on art: FREE!! .. it cost me two quid! This paper had so many supplements it was difficult to distinguish which part was actually the newspaper. Anyway, I decided not to consign the whole publication to the bin without making some sort of record of what the publishers thought we might need to ingest.
The various articles and features contained a wealth of images covering virtually the last hundred years; all published on one day, Sunday the 20th of September 2009. Having made a selection of the most interesting or thought provoking, I slapped a bit of paint and odd scraps of textured paper on a canvas and randomly added the images along with a few bits of text, all held together with good old PVA adhesive. A bit more colour for dramatic effect and job done. The only image that is not from the newspaper is the Da Vinci image (bottom right) which is part of the manufacturers label from the canvas that was used. A few clear coats for protection, and there you have it; Observation – A Day in the Life ..

This very individual piece is available for sale at the Art House. Contact me for more details.
